Dear Friends, On behalf of the LEAP University Charter School, I am pleased to introduce you to the 21st Century Community Learning Center After School Program. After school programs have a rich tradition of nurturing and preparing our children for the future, and LEAP is excited to join in that tradition. 21st Community Learning Center programs offer academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities to students and their families when school is not in session. To date, LEAP/21st CCLC program staff, faculty, and community partners have served over 350 LEAP students. The programs run Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00 pm with a snack and dinner option available. LEAP students in grades 4–12 can enroll in tutoring and homework assistance, and choose from two dozen other enrichment activities ranging from art design and exploration to intramural basketball or volleyball, Jazz or Latin American Dance, Ocean Sciences, Karate, and a diverse selection of music instruction, which even includes a STOMP! percussion class. The 21st CCLC program also involves parents and supports families. In collaboration with LEAP Parents Academy, parents receive literacy and educational and recreational services that assist families in becoming full partners in the education of their children. In addition, parents even have the option to sign up for weekly line dancing classes. The 21st CCLC is helping to shape future athletes, entertainers, teachers, parents, scientists, musicians, and community leaders. We look forward to your participation as we encourage our children to “soar beyond expectations.” Mary L. Rivera |
