Metz Culinary Management Food Services

Health and nutrition are a primary focus at LEAP Academy because healthy food leads to healthy bodies and minds. To support the health and wellness of our students, LEAP has contracted with Metz Culinary Management to provide food services for its school. Metz is a leader in nutrition that institutes programs that enhance the well-being of students, faculty and staff at K-12 facilities, independent schools, and higher education institutions. The  menus are conceived to introduce, develop and enhance healthy eating habits that emphasize nutritional education for children of all ages as well as instructors and staff.

LEAP executive chef and manager, Michele Pastorello, is a part of the Metz Culinary Management team. He has over 30 years of international culinary experience, prepares all student meals, and educates students and parents on healthy eating.



Healthy Snacks for Healthy Children

The importance of making good food choices is essential to improve health, especially for children as they grow. The LEAP Academy supports this effort in its daily meal selections and its participation in the Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Every student at LEAP Academy’s Lower School (K-6) receives a fresh fruit or vegetable on Mondays and Wednesdays as a snack. Victoria Engelstad coordinates the Program at LEAP and her student nutrition team of high school seniors helps to distribute the food.

Executive Chef Michele Pastorello shares his knowledge of fruits and vegetables with the students. He presents many fresh food demonstrations throughout the year: to explain how fruits and vegetables grow, what they look like in their natural state, different ways they can be prepared, and how they help to keep people healthy.

The children enjoy discovering new foods and eating nutritious snacks. In February, kindergartners learned about the health benefits of red beets. Delicious!

Michele Pastorello is an executive chef who hails from Livorno, Italy. Chef Pastorello is an expert in Italian food and specializes in Tuscan cuisine, with an expansive knowledge of Italian and American wines.

Chef Pastorello has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has developed his own style of cooking that combines his classic training with new techniques to create innovative meals and catering menus.

He has owned and operated several restaurants and bistros across the United States, including sites on Hawaii’s Big Island, Maui and New Jersey. He has prepared meals for every type of occasion, including parties and private meals for celebrities, politicians and dignitaries from around the world. In his spare time he hosts private food demonstrations and cooking lessons for individuals and groups.
