News and Announcements

May 15 | As part of Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (CCED) activities, the American Chemical Society (ACS) sponsors an illustrated poem contest every year for students in Kindergarten - 12th grade. Winners are chosen in each grade level category: elementary, middle, and high school. Taniyah’s entry won the Philadelphia local section contest in the middle school category.

The contest is always related to Earth Day, but the specific theme changes from year to year. This year’s theme was “Our Earth: Handle with Care!”, so the poem had to be centered on ways that people can be environmentally responsible, such as wildlife conservation, recycling, or conserving freshwater resources, just to name a few. Taniyah chose to make her free-verse poem about recycling – her statement is short and sweet, reminding all of us that we are stewards of the earth, and that we must do our part to work together to make sure that we conserve the finite resources that we have by recycling whenever possible!

May 10 | Mother’s Day Celebration at LEAP Academy On May 8, one hundred parents attended and were welcomed by the school community to celebrate Mother’s Day with a special luncheon at the STEM campus of the LEAP Academy.  Chef Michele Pastorello prepared a delicious, healthy meal of whole wheat pasta with fresh zucchini, chicken and red bell peppers, as well as a choice of apple pie or custard for dessert.
