Update Information on Coronavirus Emergency
March 13, 2020This is to provide you with an update on the school’s efforts related to the Coronavirus emergency. Below is the closure plan for LEAP:
- March 16th: Early dismissal. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Teachers will prepare lessons and materials for remote learning from 12:30 to 3:15 PM.
- Tuesday, March 17th: LEAP students report to school for full day. Techers and school staff continue to plan for remote learning and ensure that computers are distributed to all students (specifically to students in need of a computer). Extended Day is cancelled.
- Wednesday, March 18: Per Governor Murphy’s directives, DISTRICT CLOSED for a minimum of two weeks with the possibility that it could extend to a longer period.
Remote Instruction: Teachers will provide remote learning experiences to all students from home. Teachers will plan remote learning lessons (for 10 days or more) and upload into OnCourse Systems for Education. Special Education and ESL teachers will plan their lessons in collaboration with the regular education teacher and as outlined by the Supervisors of each program. Teachers will follow a coordinated schedule to ensure that at least 4 hours of remote instruction is conducted daily.
Dual enrollment and college access students (HS seniors) will continue implementing the instructional online plan already delineated by the College Access staff. Teachers will provide at least one electronically graded assignments. In many cases this will be a 1 to 3 question do-now or exit ticket. These questions should be accessible on a computer or mobile device (especially in grades k to 3).
Technology for Students: Computers are being distributed to students (if students are in need of a computer) and parents and students will be required to sign a contract to ensure that we account for the computer inventory and that parents and students are acknowledging the school’s policy on the use of school technology.
Teacher Monitoring and Support: Teachers will sign in and out through Frontline Education to keep a record of their time on instruction. Friday’s Professional Development day (March 20th) will be used as a continuation of our districtwide remote learning experiences with students.
Attendance and Report Cards: Report Card conferences will be held remotely. Parents/teachers can schedule their conferences either through a phone call or Calendly. Teachers will mark a student as present in daily (period) attendance during remote learning when they complete any assignment assigned to the students for that day.
Central District Staff: The district will require the school-based and districtwide staff (Health clinic staff, cleaning staff, food services, and security staff) to report to the school building to continue to provide services.
LEAP has also made arrangements to become a food site and will have meals for students that need it on a pick-up basis. With this, we have joined with other schools in the district to ensure that we can continue to providing services to any student that needs it.
