During the course you will be introduced to some of the major areas of business administration (marketing, management, and finance) through fun, real world projects. Students will consider how decisions affect businesses and individuals in the short and long term. Students will also conduct research and examine business problems as they learn about microeconomic, macroeconomic and international economic concepts. Through projects and problem solving, students will get inside marketers&rsquo; heads and find out what makes them tick. Students will understand financial reports and making smart and ethical decisions. Students will learn first-hand how to manage projects and people&mdash;and how to do it ethically and legally. This academy includes different areas of management, such as human resources management, risk management, project management, and knowledge management. Students will write a business plan and put that plan to action by opening and operating a business. They will tackle problems that real business professionals face, such as interviewing, hiring and supervising staff, keeping financial records, evaluating results, and much more.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;h3&gt;Entrepreneurship &amp;amp; Innovation Concentration&lt;\/h3&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;Entrepreneurship and Innovation emphasizes planning and organizational processes integral to the start-up of new ventures, focuses on the continued development of students&rsquo; small businesses. Students complete such tasks as: identifying resources necessary for business operations; developing personnel organizational plans; selecting sources of financing for their new ventures; completing loan applications; preparing pro forma financial statements; developing channel-management strategies; identifying key performance indicators; and developing detailed business plans. They will explore aerodynamics, astronautics and space life sciences. Students will apply biological and engineering concepts related to biomechanics and robotics. Students will also design, test, and physically construct circuits and devices such as smart phones and tablets, and work collaboratively on a culminating capstone project.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;h3&gt;Biomedical Concentration&lt;\/h3&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;Students will explore the concepts of human medicine and are introduced to bioinformatics, including mapping and analyzing DNA. They will examine the processes, structures and interactions of the human body. Students will also explore the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, working collaboratively to investigate and design innovative solutions for the health challenges of the 21st century such as fighting cancer with nanotechnology.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;h3&gt;Computer Science Concentration&lt;\/h3&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;Students will work in teams to create simple apps for mobile devices using MIT App Inventor. Students will explore the impact of computing in society and the application of computing across career paths and build skills and awareness in digital citizenship and cybersecurity. Students will model, simulate, and analyze data about themselves and their interests. They will also transfer the understanding of programming gained in App Inventor to learn introductory elements of text-based programming in Python&reg; to create strategy games. Students will develop programming expertise and explore the workings of the Internet. Projects and problems include app development, visualization of data, cybersecurity, and simulation. Students will collaborate to produce programs that integrate mobile devices and leverage those devices for distributed collection and data processing. Students will analyze, adapt, and improve each other&amp;#8217;s programs while working primarily in Java&trade; and other industry-standard tools. Students will create simulations to communicate central ideas in the physical, biological, and social sciences and deepen their understanding of concepts in discrete math and computer science.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;h3&gt;Industrial Design Concentration&lt;\/h3&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;The STEAM Academy Design Arts Concentration is devoted to the development of knowledge and skills possessed by successful designers, including environmental and social awareness, novel methods for human-centered and systematic analysis and visualization, and creative problem- solving. Using Project-Based-Learning as an instructional method, students learn fundamental design concepts and apply them in real world settings. The lessons and activities provide engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students use design as a tool for social change. The concentration explores fundamental concepts, theories and outcomes in domains that are relevant to designers. Through the Early College Initiative, high school students have the opportunity to complete college level courses while still in high school. LEAP seniors will complete up to 30 college credits. The focus is on transforming the senior year of high school into the first year of college. The Early College concept expands the school\u2019s Dual College Enrollment program by which selected group of high school students take selected college courses as part of their high school year. Students that graduate from high school with these many college credits enter the university with an advantage in terms of college readiness, as well as credits already completed. This provides them with an opportunity to finish college on time and to perform at a higher academic level.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Why Early College?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Research has shown the earlier introduction to college courses leads to better long-term academic outcomes.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>High quality dual enrollment can have a powerful impact on students\u2019 post-secondary success, yet few opportunities are available to low-income students in inner cities.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Students who get college experience in high school have a higher high school graduation rate and are less likely to take basic skills courses once they enrolled in college.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Dual-enrollment students are more likely to attend and persist in college once they completed high school.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Reinforces LEAP\u2019s college culture and support the expectation that each student will attend college and develop career aspirations.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Early College students have more positive high school experiences than comparison students, including positive experiences as To accompany study of the literature, history will be examined within a literary context to provide a background and framework for which the literature was manifested from. In this academy, students will build the leadership skills needed to excel in college and career.
