LEAP Academy Class of 2013

My name is Khaled Reza, I attended Rutgers University-New Brunswick and earned a Bachelor’s of Art in History (Magna Cum Laude). Currently I am finishing my last semester at the Rutgers-New Brunswick Graduate School of Education with a Masters in Education. I am focused on finishing strong, and applying for employment as a Social Studies teacher.

LEAP Academy has helped me financially for my undergraduate years. In a time when student loan is skyrocketing and coming from a low-income family, that assistance is immeasurable. At LEAP, I was prepared mentally for the college atmosphere. My one year at LEAP, I learned more about higher education and the disposition necessary to succeed there than in my first 3 years at my previous high school. Allowing students to take college courses at Rutgers-Camden and visiting different campuses truly allows a student to realize and prepare for what a college education requires.

My advice to current LEAP students: take an active role in this wonderful opportunity that you have. Engage with the Center for College Access, and do not simply wait around passively. College education is an active endeavor, so prepare yourself by being active in your education and listening to your teachers and counselors.
