October Alumni Spotlight

LEAP Academy Class of 2015

I attend Howard University, majoring in Pre-Med with a concentration in Sports Medicine and a minor in Chemistry. This year will be my second year as a Howard University Cheerleader, a Team Leader for the Howard University Day of Service and Freshman Move-In, member of the New Jersey State Club and Georgia State Club, a mentor at Girls Inc., and a part time student worker. From my first year of attending LEAP, I understood that networking would take you far–it is one of the primary ways to land a job. Networking can establish relationships with individuals that can introduce opportunities that I will need in the future. It allowed me to find study groups and opened myself up to receive internships and leadership positions which helped me engage in face-to-face interactions with potential new connections. As a LEAP alumnus, the best advice I could give current students attending LEAP and alumni is to be willing to work for it because nothing in this world is given to you. Being a minority and a woman, I have to work twice as hard to be half as good as anyone else. Nothing in this life comes easy.
