District Curriculum

LEAP Academy University District Curriculum Maps

The LEAP Academy University Charter School K-12 curriculum continuum is delineated on maps that portray the rigorous and differentiated curriculum researched and developed by district-wide committees over the last five years. The extensive work of these committees is developed around a charge from the Board of Education. Curriculum committees are comprised of teachers, administrators, and community members. An important part of the audit process is soliciting formal and informal feedback from all stakeholders, including teachers, students, and parents.

The standards-based curriculum for each district course of study is represented by an overview referred to as a curriculum map. District curriculum maps are intended to clearly communicate New Jersey Student Learning Standards and all NJ legislative mandates that serve as each map’s foundation as well as the guiding questions, learning targets, teaching and learning activities in the classroom, assessments, integration of technology, and resources being used to support teaching and learning in the classroom. The maps are living documents that are reviewed and refined as needed.

At LEAP Academy, our curriculum materials are thoughtfully designed to reflect and uphold New Jersey’s commitment to inclusive education. In alignment with state mandates, our lessons incorporate instruction on the Holocaust and genocides, African American history through the Amistad legislation, the contributions of LGBTQ individuals and people with disabilities, and the rich histories of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. We also embed diversity and inclusion education across all grade levels, creating a learning environment that promotes equity, empathy, and belonging. These elements are not only integrated into our instructional practices but are central to our mission of preparing students to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
