August 2026 Alumni Spotlight

LEAP Academy Class of 2007

Brian Nieves, a proud graduate of the LEAP Academy Class of 2010, has built a career at the intersection of law, government, and public service.

In 2026, Brian joined Holtzman Vogel, a national law firm known for its work in political and regulatory law, government investigations, and high-stakes litigation, as a Partner. He also joined Vogel Group, an international government affairs and consulting firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., as a Principal. Today, he helps clients navigate government investigations, regulatory compliance, congressional oversight, and other high-stakes legal and policy challenges.

Before entering private practice, Brian served in senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Justice. He simultaneously served as Chief of Staff and Associate Deputy Attorney General in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General and as Chief of Staff for Policy in the Office of the Associate Attorney General. In those roles, he advised senior Department leadership and helped coordinate major policy, enforcement, and operational priorities across the Department.

Earlier in his career, Brian served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Oversight on the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary, where he advised Members of Congress and senior Committee staff on constitutional, regulatory, and oversight matters and helped lead complex congressional investigations. He also previously held roles in the White House and at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Brian earned his B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University and his J.D. from Rutgers Law School.

For Brian, his connection to LEAP is deeply personal. The Nieves family has long been part of the LEAP Academy community, and the education, discipline, and support he received there helped give him the foundation and confidence to pursue opportunities he once could not have imagined.

Brian’s story is a reminder to current and future LEAP students that where they begin does not determine how far they can go. LEAP is proud to celebrate him as an alumnus and recognize the example he continues to set through his leadership and service.
