LEAP+ Afterschool Program: A 2024–2025 Snapshot of Growth and Impact

September 16, 2025

At LEAP Academy University Charter Schools, learning doesn’t stop at the dismissal of the school day. Through the LEAP+ Afterschool Program, funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant, students in grades 3 through 12 are experiencing safe, engaging, and enriching opportunities that stretch well beyond the traditional school day. With a mix of academic support, hands-on projects, mentoring, and creative outlets, LEAP+ is helping young people grow both inside and outside of the classroom.

The numbers speak volumes. This school year, 92% of students enrolled in LEAP+ have attended 30 days or more, showing strong commitment to the program. Even more telling, 100% of surveyed parents shared that LEAP+ has positively increased their child’s outlook on school. With a balance of structured learning and fun activities, students not only improve academically but also build confidence and stronger connections with peers and mentors.

Student voices highlight the true spirit of the program. A 3rd grader shared, “I love LEAP afterschool because we get to play with our friends and do fun projects.” Meanwhile, an 11th grader reflected on the leadership opportunities within the program, saying, “The LEAP+ mentoring program has been great. I get to help mentor younger kids and also get great leadership advice from the staff.” For middle schoolers, LEAP+ sparks creativity through modern outlets like podcasting. As one 8th grader explained, “We do cool stuff like media and podcasting. My friends and I are creating a weekly show for LEAP.”

From sports and leadership development to creative media and peer mentoring, LEAP+ is creating spaces where students of all ages can thrive. As participation grows across grades 3–12, the program continues to prove the importance of afterschool enrichment in shaping students’ futures; keeping them inspired, motivated, and engaged every step of the way.
