LEAP Academy Awarded $10,000 Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grant
March 24, 2025CAMDEN, NJ – LEAP Academy has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Sustainable Jersey for Schools, funded by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), to support sustainability initiatives within the school. The grant will fund Project Hydrate Sustainably, an initiative aimed at promoting access to clean drinking water while reducing plastic waste.
As part of the project, the district will install eleven water bottle refilling stations throughout the school. This effort encourages students and staff to use reusable bottles, cutting down on single-use plastics and fostering sustainable hydration habits. In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, the school will implement educational programs on the environmental impact of plastic waste and the benefits of healthy hydration.
LEAP Academy is among forty New Jersey public schools and districts receiving sustainability grants through Sustainable Jersey for Schools. In total, thirteen schools received $10,000 grants, while twenty-seven others were awarded $2,000 each. The funding supports projects such as outdoor classrooms, waste reduction programs, biodiversity efforts, and initiatives that promote equity and student well-being.
