Students, Staff and Families attended a Concert in the War Memorial Theater in Trenton

February 28, 2019

On Sunday, February 24, 2019, the Capital Philharmonic Orchestra hosted LEAP students, parents and faculty in a concert of African-American composers, including the east coast premiere of “Violin Concerto No. 1”, by Florence Price. The activity, held at the War Memorial Theater in Trenton, New Jersey, featured renowned soloist Samuel Thompson on violin. Students who attended the concert are just beginning their study of violin. LEAP’s large enrollment of students of color studying violin specifically attracted the attention of the Philharmonic’s board. This was the first time that the LEAP students had ever seen and heard live orchestral music.  The experience delighted our young scholars and motivated them to continue their instrumental studies to become soloists in the not too distant future. The parents showed great appreciation at the invitation, as well as being able to share this beautiful activity with their children.
